1934 ROLLS-ROYCE 20/25

This car used to belong to the owner's aunt before leaving the family for a few years.

Following its arrival last spring, work on this phase of the 20/25 restoration is almost complete.  (The owner is thinking about tackling the body and paint work next year, after using the car for the summer).

One of the final tasks has been the front seats.  As you can see from the photographs, the leather had discoloured and torn after 80 years of use.

Now we are just awaiting the return of the wheels following painting and new tyres then it will be time for road testing the car.

1934 ROLLS-ROYCE 20/25 ENGINE REBUILD

Here are a few photos of the Rolls-Royce 20/25 engine as we were building it back up. 

It is now back in the car and running well on test.  We will put a few miles on the car before it is returned to its owner and then it will come back to us for a 500 mile service.

ROLLS-ROYCE 20/25 REWIRE

Ian and Brian are well under way with the rewire of this 1934 Rolls-Royce.  The next few photos will show a little of what they have been up to:

1930 ROLLS-ROYCE 20/25

Ready for a test run

We are finally nearing completion of the work on this old lady.  She is out for a test drive today in the sun.
We are now just waiting for the return of the wooden rear window surround which was broken up and rotten so a new one is being made by a wood specialist.  In the meantime a new driver's window glass top section is also being made since the one on the car was incorrectly shaped leaving a gap of varying sizes at the top.

1930 ROLLS-ROYCE 20/25

We are in the final stages of the roof restoration on the 20/25.  Graeme and Ian have been busy fitting the smoker's hatch to the top of the roof and have now finished fitting the brass pin bead and guttering.  Graeme has now masked off the brass pin bead to paint it black.

1930 ROLLS-ROYCE 20/25

Although generally a mechanical workshop, this week has felt more like a joinery.  With work progressing on the Alvis, we have also been making a replacement running board for the 20/25.  This is now complete and Graeme has started fitting it this morning.  He has also been busy overhauling the back brakes and he is about to get the brake cutter out to cut the new shoes back to true so that there are no high spots which means better brake efficiency right from the start.

ROLLS-ROYCE 20/25

The work on the front brakes of the1930 Rolls-Royce 20/25 is now complete and the front axle king pins and bearings have been replaced.  The one-shot system has been overhauled and we have just finished replacing the clutch.  The re-wire is underway and the gearbox will be refitted once the wiring conduits are back in position.  When the wiring is completed we will move on to the back brakes and refitting the front wings.

ROLLS-ROYCE 20/25

Work continues on the recommissioning of this 20/25.  The work on the front cross-member is now completed (see photos below) and the front axle repairs are now well underway.  All parts have now been over-hauled ready to assemble.  The next job is to fit and ream the brake shaft bushes before the king pins, etc, are built up
